For Parents/Guardians: Searching for colleges

If you are not yet linked to your student(s) or their high school(s), follow these steps.

Scoir’s Discover feature allows you to search for colleges within the context of your student.

Searching for colleges

Search for a college by name

To search for a college by name, you can type the name of the college into the search bar at the top of your Dashboard.

Search for colleges using filters

To search for colleges based on different filters, follow these steps.

  1. Go to the Discover tab from the global header.
  2. Click the dropdown button in each desired filter at the top of the page to narrow your search based on filters such as college major, degree type, college size, state, location, and more. You can apply as many or as few as you'd like; the colleges that fit these filters will automatically appear below.
  3. To view all the available filters, select All Filters.
The All Filters tab can also be used to Clear all Filters to start over using the Clear All button.
For Parents: Searching for Colleges - search filters
  1. To remove a filter, simply click into the filter and uncheck the selected buttons.

Viewing your Student's Preferences

To view your student's saved College Preferences, follow these steps.

  1. Click on the Profile icon in the top right corner. Select your student's name.
  2. Click on the College Preferences tab in the Overview menu.

Understanding Discover Filters

Scoir’s Discover offers a wide variety of options for narrowing your college search results to find exactly the colleges you’re looking for as a parent. The full list of filters is in the All Filters button.

Each of these filtering options is explained below:

  • Academic Focus: Use this filter to search for general academic focuses or specific majors.
  • Degree: This filter lets you select levels of undergraduate degrees.
  • School Size: This filter lets you select campus population ranges.
  • Campus Setting: This filter lets you select various campus setting designations.
  • Distance: This filter lets you select a distance radius from a location.
  • Location: This filter lets you select domestic/international preferences, as well as regions of the United States. You can also add individual US states by clicking within the Specific US States box and typing the name of a state.
  • Admissions: This filter lets you select from different levels of selectivity (which is calculated by dividing the number of admitted students by the number of applicants). You can also select Test Optional colleges, or adjust the ranges for average SAT and ACT scores.
  • Application Method: This filter lets you select the application methods offered.
  • School Type: This filter lets you select from various school types including Funding Source, Religious Affiliation, and Special-Mission.
  • Athletics: This filter lets you search by athletics and divisions.
  • Student Life: Use this filter to search for and select multiple interests and activities that correlate with colleges across Scoir’s college database.
  • ROTC Programs Offered:This filter allows you to select ROTC program availability.

Explore #Posts

With #Posts, you and your student can explore content related to areas of interest such as #Internships, #StudyAbroad, and more, with content coming directly from colleges themselves.

To explore #Posts, follow these steps.

  1. Navigate to the Discover tab in the main navigation menu.
  2. Click on the #Posts tab at the top of the page.
  3. Select an area of interest from the buttons that appear on your screen, or explore all categories by clicking on the All Categories button.
