General Questions
When will the integration be available?
The integration is now live! Find more information in our Getting Started Guide.
Will there be an additional cost?
No. There is no added cost for schools to use the Common App integration within Scoir.
This is part of our commitment to making college applications easier—without increasing your budget.

What will change with the new integration?
On a high level, students will be prompted to connect Scoir and their Common App accounts by logging in at the touchpoints we provide. Once successful, their My Colleges lists will reliably sync with their Common App activity.
Students will complete their FERPA release & waiver, make Fee Waiver requests, and complete their portion of Early Decision Agreements in Common App for those colleges they’re applying via Common App.
Counselors will finalize their portion of shared forms, as well as build and send all other required forms entirely in Scoir. When submitting forms, they will be routed through Common App, which will then send it to the college for a consistent delivery experience.
And, you still have control over how teacher recommendations flow and Common App will no longer prompt students to request teacher evaluations and recommendations.
Our intent with the integration isn’t to make drastic changes to Scoir, and our current efforts are focused on ensuring existing features are refined to seamlessly support the completion and routing of Common App documents in ways that counselors are accustomed to today.
You’ll find more details on all of these changes throughout this FAQ.

Does the integration apply to alumni or transfer students?
Currently, the integration is designed for active students only and does not support transfer applications.
Will Common App have access to Scoir student data?
No. Our approach to protecting student data remains unchanged. Personally Identifiable Information (PII) will continue to be safeguarded by Scoir.
Connecting Accounts
How will student accounts in Scoir get connected with Common App?
Students will begin connecting their Scoir and Common App accounts on Scoir by logging in at the touchpoints we provide.
Once they click “Connect Common App,” they’ll be directed to log into their Common App account and agree to connect their account.
Once the login is successfully completed, Common App will send us the student’s unique ID, so we can securely sync details and reliably submit materials on the students behalf.
The good news is, you don’t have to worry about students matching the email they use in Scoir with the one they use for Common App.

College List Syncing
How does list syncing work between Scoir and Common App?
With the integration, your students’ My Colleges lists will sync with their Common App activity, and you'll know where and when they’ve applied, all within Scoir.
At the end of the day, little will change in My Colleges, but what you will see are any changes made in Common App will be reflected in Scoir.
For instance, if a student follows a college on Scoir, and then begins the application process on Common App, we’ll reflect that they’re applying, and what round they’ve chosen in Scoir.
Also, if any schools are added directly to Common App, we’ll pull those into Scoir so they’re reflected on our end as well. If a student removes a school from their Common App list, it will be moved out of their applying list in Scoir and back into their following list.
The sync will help ensure accurate details are recorded regarding application round and submission status.
As an added bonus, where we know a student is applying or has applied via Common App, Scoir will not prompt them for their application email address.
And, as a result of the connected accounts and the synced records, we now have more reliable information to provide to colleges to support matching.

Will in-progress Common App applications appear in Scoir?
Colleges added to a student’s My Colleges list in Common App will also appear in Scoir—before the application is submitted. Scoir will not push application status data to Common App.
Will this have automatic nightly syncing, or do students have to sync it manually?
Scoir will utilize Common App’s event based notifications for automatic syncing, so students will not have to do this manually.
When students apply via the Common App, how long will it take to show up in Scoir?
Scoir will be notified of actions taken by any connected student. These updates are to be sent with minimal delay.
Can we view the student's Common Application through Scoir without the student having to add us as an “Advisor” on the Common App platform?
Students’ common app and college-specific answers are not shared with integration partners and will not be viewable in Scoir. Applicants will still have the ability to add advisors and will need to take this action in Common App.
Preparing & Sending Counselor Forms
For those that take advantage of the Common App integration, will we need to fill out Forms in Scoir and Common App, or only in Scoir?
As far as forms go, once integrated, counselors will manage and submit all forms in a way that’s not very different than it is in Scoir today.
One change you’ll notice is we updated School Report templates on July 1 to ensure all necessary information is collected and available, regardless of application method.
Moving forward, the School Report creation flow will generate the proper forms based on the application method for each school.
So, if your student is using Common App to apply, we’ll generate the Common App School Report, and if they’re using another method, we’ll generate Scoir’s Secondary School Report.
Counselor recommendations will also be updated to collect additional details to align with Common App’s form requirements. However, schools that choose to opt out of the integration, can update their school settings to revert this change.
Early Decision Agreements & Fee Waiver requests will be initiated by students in Common App, while counselors will complete their portion and submit via Scoir. And, other application methods will continue to work as they do today.

Will we be required to complete the Common App Counselor Forms (School Reports and Counselor Recommendations)?
We updated the School Report creation and Counselor Recommendation flows to collect the information supported in the Common App forms. When creating a counselor evaluation, there will be two new evaluation questions which will be optional. If you are uploading a counselor evaluation on behalf of another counselor, these two questions will not be presented.
The new evaluation questions are:
• "How long have you known the student and in what context?" (up to 100 characters)
• "What are the first words that come to your mind to describe this student?" (up to 150 characters)
If you will not be providing a written recommendation, you can check the Opt Out box. This lets colleges know you’re not supplying a personal evaluation.
Please note that college-specific counselor recommendations cannot be assigned or sent to schools students apply to via Common App, only those via another method. If a student is applying via Common App, then they must have a generic counselor recommendation.
If you opt out of the Common App integration, this change will not be required.

How will this change the FERPA process for Scoir and Common App for counselors and students?
Students will be required to complete the Common App release & waiver in order to take certain actions supported by the integration. Scoir will be notified of the status and will make these details available to counselors and teachers. Any school that feels the Common App process sufficiently covers their requirements can disable the Scoir FERPA release and/or waiver features in their settings.
Is there any way students' transcripts that are uploaded to Scoir could be used to populate the Common App course fields?
Nope. This is not a feature supported by the partner integration.
Managing Teacher Recommendation Requests & Submissions
Should students request LORs through Scoir or Common App?
With the integration enabled, students will request recommendations through Scoir. Common App will not prompt them to enter teacher or counselor contact information.
While counselor forms and teacher recommendations can all be managed in Scoir, please note that some colleges require 3rd party recs (e.g. clergy, employer, etc.) and applicants will continue to make these requests in Common App as they have done before.

Can counselors still upload recommendations on behalf of a teacher?
You will not be able to upload letters of recommendation on behalf of teachers for students applying via Common App. When students choose other application methods, you can still upload those letters, however, please know that you can only upload letters on behalf of the teacher and not other materials like the student evaluation and optional report.
Can students still choose which letter goes to which college?
The options for requesting letters of recommendation will depend on your settings in Scoir.
If students currently have the ability to submit recommendation requests, they can assign where those letters are sent. If students do not currently have the ability to request letters of recommendation directly, a counselor will have to specify where each letter is sent.

How will students assign teacher recommendations to specific colleges and know how many should be assigned to each?
My College records will continue providing indications of what docs are required for each college in a manner very similar to the views provided today.
Can teachers format letters before uploading?
Teachers will have the same options for uploading recommendation letters: Upload a document or enter directly into Scoir.
Will teachers control which colleges see their letters?
No. Depending on your current settings, either the student or a counselor will specify where letters are sent.
Will there be a teacher dashboard for rec tracking?
Teachers will have the same tools you have available to you today. Counselors will also still have a recommendations dashboard to track recommendations and view by teacher or by student.
Can counselors help assign teachers if a student forgets to do so?
Regardless of whether students or counselors request teacher letters of recommendation, counselors will still have the ability to review and/or adjust LOR assignments before sending them, assuming the school does not have the auto-send of letters of recommendation setting on.
Who can see a student's letters — only assigned teachers?
Visibility into students’ letters will remain the same and are tied directly to roles and permissions. If your permissions are set to a teacher role only, you will only be able to see your students’ letters.
Will teachers create college-specific letters of recommendations?
Each teacher can only submit one recommendation per student. If a teacher submits a college-specific recommendation and a student or counselor assigns it to that specific college, then that is the only letter from that teacher that can be sent for that student for colleges they apply to via Common App.
The college-specific setting will remain an option, but we recommend that teachers complete one general recommendation for a student which can then be assigned by the student or counselor to multiple colleges.

Will Scoir show how many recs each college requires?
The admission information shown will remain as it is today.
What happens if students enter counselor/teacher emails into Common App?
If applying to a Scoir school, the student will be prompted by Common App to complete this step in Scoir.
Can recommenders outside the school still submit letters?
Applicants applying via Common App will be prompted to make 3rd party recommendation requests in Common App. The partner integration will not support the sending of these 3rd-party submissions via a counselor.
What if teachers uploaded recommendations but are no longer working at our school and they're in an outstanding state?
Teachers who’ve left the school can still log into Scoir with their existing email and password. If their uploaded letters are missing required evaluation fields, they’ll need to log in and complete those by going to their outstanding recs and clicking Edit.
If they can’t access Scoir because they forgot their password, then students or counselors would need to request new LORs from teachers currently in Scoir or coordinate to have these sent outside of Scoir.

How do we add letters of recommendation from retired teachers or teachers now at a different school?
The process depends on how the student is applying:
If applying via a method other than Common App
Counselors can upload the letters on the teacher’s behalf and assign them to the appropriate colleges. These letters that are uploaded on behalf of a teacher or other recommender cannot be assigned/sent to schools that students apply to via Common App.
If applying via Common App
• The student could request them as an “Other Recommender” directly in Common App and this would be sent as an "other recommendation".
• The student could download the Teacher Evaluation PDF Form in Common App and provide it to the teacher to then have it mailed to the institutions they apply to.
• Coordinate to have the letters sent to the colleges outside of Scoir.

Sending Application Documents
Will my school still have the option to require counselor acknowledgement of new applications?
We plan to continue supporting acknowledgement in the case of Common App integrated schools, but it’s more of an administrative check, as we can't limit what actions a student takes in Common App.
Will there be any changes to the Document sending process with the Common App integration?
When the time comes time for you to send supporting documents, here are a few things to know:
First, Common App documents are not batched and sent nightly. When you send a document, in most cases, it will be delivered to Common App within moments of you taking the action. Of course, the timing is subject to volume limits and demand.
Once sent, the documents are collected and stored at Common App and made available to colleges when the student completes each application submission.
If students add colleges to their list after you’ve sent documents to Common App, that’s no problem. Common App will recognize this and tie those docs to the student after the fact.
Next, documents are submitted to Common App by type and not necessarily by application. Because of that, as soon as you create and send a school report, it’s made available to all colleges where the student has applied, which is a key aspect of what is meant by "one & done."
As soon as one of these colleges downloads the document, it can not be updated or replaced. Instead, the counselor will need to submit an Optional Report to notify the college of what was wrong with the initial submission.
Documents are made available to all colleges, regardless of their requirements, with the exception of teacher recommendations.
For example, if only one school on a student's list requires a midyear report, all schools will be able to download and view.
The document types that Common App supports are as follows:
• Teacher Evaluations
• Counselor Recommendations
• School Reports
• Midyear Reports
• Final Reports
• Optional Reports
• Fee Waivers
• Early Decision Agreements
Please note: there is a 2MB size limit in place for all PDF documents that get sent to Common App.
The School Report creation flow will be updated to prompt counselors to indicate what transcripts they would like to submit with the school report, up to four. The initial transcript will be required, but additional and or transfer transcripts can also be submitted.
Finally, Scoir will know when each school has downloaded each document and we will continue to provide you with this information in a manner similar to today.

How will teacher Letters of Recommendation be sent?
In cases where a Scoir integrated school does not have the auto-send of teacher letters of recommendation setting enabled, counselors will still have the opportunity to review and adjust assignments and will still need to “Send” these recommendations, whether individually by student or in bulk as they do today. This is true even in cases where other document types have already been sent.
Will transcripts and School Reports be sent through Scoir or Common App, and will the mass send option for transcripts still be available?
For integrated Scoir schools, all docs will be sent via Scoir but will flow through Common App. In these cases, transcripts are sent along with school reports, which can be prepared and sent individually or prepared and sent in bulk.
Can counselors and teachers continue to only upload Docs to Common App and not send through Scoir if we opt into the integration?
No, the integration will require development and sending of forms and materials in Scoir.
Will student documents be sent automatically or can we have control over what is sent?

How will we receive notification that the supporting documents are ready to be sent?
You'll continue receiving notifications as you do today, and you’ll still manage, send and track documents that need your attention, or are complete and ready to send, within Scoir.
For instance, a student's assigned counselor will receive a notification in Scoir when a school is added to their applied list, so the counselor can view document status and knows which ones are ready to be sent.

Student Experience
Can my students start updating their "Common App" tab in their Common App account?
Yes, students can get an early start on things by beginning with the "Common App" tab in their account. College-specific questions are refreshed annually and any early work will be lost/cleared when Common App completes their annual rollover. Please note, Common App is refreshing their applicant experience for the upcoming cycle and the "Common App" tab will be replaced with "My Common Application", but all answers will be preserved.
Are there any action items students should hold on completing at this time?
No, students can proceed as normal at this time.
Can students submit some applications via Common App and some applications to Scoir?
Yes, we remain application agnostic and provide application flexibility.
Students should continue to apply however best serves them and you, whether that’s Common App, Apply Coalition with Scoir, or another method.
Students should continue to apply however best serves them and you, whether that’s Common App, Apply Coalition with Scoir, or another method.
Will students have one login now, or will they still log in to Common App separately?
Students will continue to have separate Scoir and Common App accounts.
How much of the students' profiles will colleges be able to see when they apply to Common App schools integrated with Scoir?
Students' Scoir Profile information is not shared with Common App or member colleges. Students will continue to build and maintain their Common App profile in Common App and that information is not shared with Scoir. Where we know a student is applying or has applied via Common App, Scoir will not prompt them for their application email address.
How will students know where they should upload information (Scoir vs Common App)?
Students will build and submit their application on Common App. Common app will then prompt students to take necessary actions in Common App as needed (FERPA release & waiver, fee waiver requests, early decision agreements, etc.) and direct them to Scoir to make recommendation requests.
Will the “Email Used for Application” field be auto-populated?
We are only doing away with the collection of "Email used for application" in cases where the school has opted in to use the integration and the student is applying via Common App. This is because the integration itself provides more reliable means for matching materials with the application record at the college.
Training & Support
Will we receive step-by-step instructions tutorials for the Common App + Scoir integration?
Does Scoir have a counselor support line with a real person?
Scoir users are encouraged to connect with their Customer Success Manager if they have any questions or issues.
How do I share feedback?
