Counselors: Managing Common App Early Decision (ED) Agreements in Scoir

Cristina Hernandez Updated by Cristina Hernandez

This guide explains how Early Decision Agreements are handled in Scoir when students apply through the Common App, depending on whether your school uses the Scoir + Common App integration.

We’ll walk through how the process works if your school is integrated, and how it differs if your school is not, including what steps students and counselors take in each platform.

For information on how to initiate, complete, and manage ED Agreements in Scoir when students are applying through other methods, see: For Counselors: Digitally Signing Early Decision Contracts/Agreements.

If Your School Uses the Scoir + Common App Integration

When your school is integrated with Common App and a student is applying Early Decision to a college through Common App:

  • The student completes the ED Agreement in Common App only (not in Scoir).
  • After the student signs, you'll receive an email notification from Scoir prompting you to complete your counselor portion in Scoir.
  • As an ED applicant, the student will need to invite a parent or legal guardian in Common App to complete their part of the agreement. Once invited, parents/guardians will receive an email at the email address you provided. From there, they’ll need to follow the link in the invitation, enter their email exactly as it appears in the message (it is case-sensitive), review and sign the ED Agreement, and then submit it.

For detailed steps on the steps students need take, check out and share our Student Common App Guide or check out Common App's help article.

How to Complete the Counselor Portion in Scoir

  1. Go to the student’s profile > Colleges & Applications > Manage Documents.
  2. In the Other Documents section, locate the Early Decision Agreement for their Common App college. Click Sign Agreement to the right of it.
  3. Review the Common App Early Decision Agreement, check the box to digitally sign, and click Sign & Save.

The student will receive an email and a notification in Scoir once your signature is complete and the ED Agreement is finalized.

What If a Student Changes Their Mind?

If a student no longer wants to apply Early Decision through Common App:

  • They should change the admission plan for a college directly in Common App, as long as they haven’t submitted the application.
  • If they’ve already submitted, they’ll need to contact the college’s admissions office directly to request the change.

In Scoir:

  • If the application type changes before you’ve signed the ED Agreement, it will automatically be removed from the student’s list of documents.
  • If you’ve already signed it, the agreement will remain in the Manage Documents page on the student’s profile. You can keep or delete it and it will no longer be listed as a  requirement for that college.
You can also access all pending ED Agreements from your counselor dashboard by clicking the number next to Needs Early Decision Contract Signature.

Sending the ED Agreement to Common App

Once the student has submitted their Common App application, you can send the signed ED Agreement from Scoir to Common App along with their other application documents:

Once sent to Common App, the ED Agreement cannot be unsent.

If Your School Does Not Use the Integration

If your school is not integrated with Common App and a student is applying Early Decision to a Common App college:

  • The student must complete the ED Agreement in both Common App and Scoir.
  • After completing the ED Agreement in Common App, the student should proceed to Scoir to complete the Early Decision Agreement and request signatures from their parent/guardian and counselor.
  • You’ll receive notifications in Scoir when it’s your turn to sign, as well as when other parties have signed.
