Students: Completing an Early Decision (ED) Agreement for Common App

Cristina Hernandez Updated by Cristina Hernandez

If you’re applying Early Decision to a college through the Common App, the process for completing your ED Agreement in Scoir depends on whether your school uses the Scoir + Common App integration.

We’ll explain how the process differs based on your school’s integration status, and what steps you’ll need to take in Common App and Scoir.

Not sure if your school is using the Common App integration? If you're a senior, you’ll see a Connect to Common App button on your Scoir profile—this is a quick way to tell if your school is using the integration.

If Your School Uses the Scoir + Common App Integration

If your school uses the integration and you’ve connected your Scoir and Common App accounts, you’ll complete the ED Agreement in Common App for any colleges you're applying to as Early Decision.

  1. From your Common App account, go to My Colleges and click into the college where you’re applying ED
  2. In the General section, select Early Decision as your admission plan
  3. Scroll down to read the ED Agreement, check the box to confirm, and sign your name
  4. Once that’s done, your counselor will complete their portion in Scoir. You’ll receive a notification in Scoir once your counselor has signed.
  5. As an ED applicant, you’ll need to invite a parent or legal guardian in Common App to complete their part of the agreement. In the Recommenders and FERPA section for the college where you’re applying Early Decision, click Invite Parent
  6. Enter your parent or guardian’s first name, last name, and email address, then select whether you’d like them to complete the Early Decision Agreement for that application. Click Invite.

Your parent or guardian will then appear in the Recommenders and FERPA section as invited.

What If You Change Your Mind?

If you no longer want to apply Early Decision to a college you’re applying to through Common App:

  • You can change your admission plan in Common App if you haven’t submitted your application yet.
  • If you’ve already submitted your application, you’ll need to contact the college’s admissions office directly to request the change.

If Your School Does Not Use the Integration

If your school isn’t connected to Common App, you’ll need to complete ED Agreements in both Common App and Scoir.
