For Counselors: Understanding List Scores

Cristina Hernandez Updated by Cristina Hernandez

Streamline the creation and evaluation of college lists, quickly identify students in need of support, and effectively track their progress from early list building to application planning with List Scores.

What is a List Score?

A List Score is a personalized grade for a student's college list that you can easily sort, filter, and view directly from the student roster and their college list.

The score is calculated by evaluating the student's college list against criteria set by the high school, ensuring it includes an appropriate mix of Reach, Level, and Likely schools. Grades range from A+ to F.

To see a List score, Acceptance Likelihood must be set. Acceptance Likelihood is a setting on each college in a student's list that reflects how competitive it might be for the student to be admitted. Counselors or students can manually assign Acceptance Likelihoods, or you can use Intelligent Match to do it automatically.

A list score will be calculated as soon as there is at least one school with an acceptance likelihood. The score will only account for those schools with an acceptance likelihood. If a score isn't available, it's a result of an empty college list or a complete lack of acceptance likelihood on any college.

Scoir’s Balanced List scores evolve as students move from exploring colleges to applying. Scoir can update the List Scores if your school chooses to focus only on the colleges in Applying or Applied, at a time you decide.

Where to find List Scores

You can view List Scores in two places:

  • Student Roster: College list grades can be surfaced within the roster, allowing quick evaluation and identification of those students who need support. Click the score to jump to the student’s My Colleges page, where you can review more closely. You can also filter the roster by List Score.

  • My Colleges: From a student's profile, go directly to their My Colleges page to view their college list and score. Click the score to open the List Score Panel for more details.

Scores with a question mark mean the student is missing key data like GPA or test scores or that the Acceptance Likelihood hasn’t been assigned to at least one of the colleges.

Understanding List Score Detail Panel

When you click the List Score from the My Colleges page, the List Score Detail Panel appears, giving you a quick overview of the student’s college list score. It shows how many colleges fall into each category and identifies missing or incomplete info. In Aaron's case above, some colleges are missing an Acceptance Likelihood.

The panel offers an easy way to Set Intelligent Match to automatically fill in missing Acceptance Likelihood values for colleges. You’re also given the option to set the Match Level manually. Each category has checkmarks to show what’s complete and what still needs attention, making it easy for counselors to see where to focus and provide informed guidance.

Set Intelligent Match from the List Score detail panel

If a student has colleges on their list without an Acceptance Likelihood, you'll be prompted to use the "Set Intelligent Match" option from the List Score detail panel to predict and set likelihoods for all colleges.

Here’s how to use this option:

  1. Click Set Intelligent Match from the List Score detail panel
  2. Choose one of the following options:
    1. Use Predicted Match Level: Scoir will predict the student's Match Level based on similar profiles. This prediction updates automatically with changes in the student's academic profile. If GPA or test scores are missing, you'll be prompted to add them for a more accurate prediction.
    2. Manually Set Match Level: Select this option to set the Match Level yourself. Note that it won’t update automatically with changes to the student’s profile.
    3. Don’t Use Intelligent Match: Choose this if you prefer to manually assign acceptance likelihoods instead of using Scoir’s predictions.

After setting the Match Level, all colleges on the student’s list will display Acceptance Likelihoods, and their list score will adjust accordingly. You can always revisit the score panel to adjust your selection.

To streamline this process for all students, we recommend auto-assigning predicted match within your high school settings.

Take Action with the List Score

From the List Score detail panel, you can click the 🔍 icon to open the college search page. The relevant filters—such as Likely, Very Likely, Level, or Reach and Far Reach—will already be applied.
