For Counselors: Manage colleges on behalf of a student

As students begin building their college lists and setting preferences, help keep them on track with our college management tools.

Searching for colleges

There are a couple of ways to search for and filter colleges whether you're doing general research or on behalf of a specific student. Below is a brief overview, but you can learn more about navigating search in the student article.

To search for colleges, click Discover in the left navigation and select Colleges.

Start with the five most popular filters: Academic Focus, Degree, Size, Location, and Setting. For more specific results, explore additional options in All Filters. When you find a good match, click Suggest to open a dialog box.

From the dialog box, enter the students' names and click Suggest. The suggestion will then appear in the Suggested column of their My Colleges list.

Searching on behalf of an individual students

Navigate to the individual student's profile, and select Colleges & Applications in the left-side menu. Click My Colleges, and then click View Search under the Suggested column

From here, you can search for colleges on behalf of that student and easily recommend them for that particular student.

Managing colleges for a student

As a counselor, you can manage colleges for your students in several ways. First, search for and select your student, then navigate to Colleges & Applications > My Colleges in their profile.

Here are your options:

1. Add a college: On the My Colleges page, click +Add College to place a college in the Suggested, Applying, or Applied columns. Learn more

2. Drag and Drop:  You can also drag and drop a college from the Following column to the Applying or Applied columns.  For colleges being applied with Scoir, you cannot move the college from 'Following' to 'Applying.' The college tile will be moved automatically once the student begins filling out the Apply with Scoir application.

3. Mark as Applying or Applied: Click a college tile in the Following column, select Mark as Applying, enter the application details, and click Save to move it to the Applying column and start the document process. To mark a college as Applied, follow the same steps from the Applying column.

Once a college is moved to the Applied column, it cannot be moved back. To remove it, the college must be marked as withdrawn. Only colleges in the Applying column can be removed directly.

This will remove the college from the Applying column, and will move the college back to the Following column.

To Remove a College from the Applied Column

You can indicate whether a student did not apply to a college, or if they have gone through the process of withdrawing their already-submitted application.

For colleges that are in the 'Applied' column that were applied with Scoir, there will be a manual ‘withdraw’ option to report on our side in Scoir, but you will need to reach out to the college directly to actually withdraw application.

If the student did not apply

In the student's My Colleges list, locate the college in the Applied column that needs to be removed. Click the three dots on the right side of the college tile and select Remove from Applied
