Students: Requesting Fee Waivers for Common App

Cristina Hernandez Updated by Cristina Hernandez

If you’re applying to colleges through Common App, the steps for requesting a fee waiver depend on whether your school uses the Scoir + Common App integration.

Not sure if your school is using the Common App integration? If you're a senior, you’ll see a Connect Common App button in the Personal Details section of your Scoir profile—this is a quick way to tell if your school is using the integration.

Applying through another method? If you're not using Common App for a college, you can request a fee waiver directly in Scoir. Learn how: Requesting Fee Waivers in Scoir.

If Your School Uses the Scoir + Common App Integration

If your school uses the integration and you’ve connected your Scoir and Common App accounts, you’ll request the fee waiver directly in Common App for any colleges you're applying to via Common App.

How to Request a Fee Waiver in Common App

  1. Log into your Common App account
  2. Go to My Common Application > Profile > Common App Fee Waiver
  3. Review the eligibility criteria. If you qualify, select Yes and sign your name.
  4. Be sure to scroll down and click Continue.

If you selected the wrong option, you can return to Common App and update your Fee Waiver response directly by repeating the step above.

After signing, your counselor will receive a notification in Scoir to review and approve your fee waiver request. Once approved, you’ll receive a notification in Scoir confirming it’s complete.

If Your School Does Not Use the Scoir + Common App Integration

If your school isn’t connected to Common App, you’ll need to request fee waivers in both Scoir and Common App for any Common App colleges you're applying to.

  • In Common App, you’ll complete the fee waiver section under My Common Application > Profile > Common App Fee Waiver, just as described above.
  • In Scoir, you’ll submit a separate fee waiver request.
