Students: Connecting Common App & Scoir

Cristina Hernandez Updated by Cristina Hernandez

This guide walks through how seniors connect their Common App account and the steps they must take for a successful connection:

Account connection is only available for students at schools using the Scoir + Common App integration. Students unsure about their school's integration status should contact their school counselor to confirm

Before Connecting Common App & Scoir

To link your Common App & Scoir accounts, you’ll need to complete the following steps in Common App first.

  1. Log into your Common App account at https://apply.commonapp.org/login (or create one as a first-year applicant)

When creating a Common App Account be sure to use your legal first and last name exactly as it appears on official school records to ensure it matches transcripts sent to colleges
Save your login—you’ll need it when connecting to Scoir.
  2. Go to My Common Application > Education > Current or Most Recent Secondary/High School. Click Find school
    1. Find your high school, select it, and click Continue
This tells Common App that your school uses Scoir. If you're unsure which one to pick, ask your counselor for your school’s CEEB code
  3. Go to College Search to find and add at least one college you plan to apply to
  4. Go to My Colleges, click into a college you’ve added, then open the General section
    1. Choose your Preferred Start Term and Preferred Admission Plan for the colleges you will apply to so you can establish a deadline for this application. Be sure to scroll down and click Continue to save your selections
This is required before your counselor can send documents through Scoir.
  5. Still in My Colleges, open Recommenders and FERPA. If you have not already added your High School in the My Common Application section, you will be prompted to do this first. Read and complete the FERPA Release Authorization
This must be signed before your school can send documents.
  6. (Optional) If applying for a fee waiver, go to My Common Application > Profile > Common App Fee Waiver. If eligible, answer “Yes,” sign your name, and click Continue

Connecting Common App & Scoir

Once you’ve completed the steps in Common App, you’ll connect your account to Scoir so your college list can sync and your counselor can begin preparing and sending documents.

If you began filling out Common App during your junior year, some of that information may have been cleared over the summer.

Even if you've have already entered your Common App ID in Scoir, you'll still need to connect your Common App account. The CA ID alone will not connect your accounts or sync application lists. When you connect, Scoir automatically updates your profile with the ID we receive from Common App to keep everything accurate and aligned.

Follow these steps in Scoir:

  1. From your Scoir account, click Me and select View Profile
  2. If you’re a senior, you’ll see the option to Connect Common App on your profile. Click it to begin the connection process
If you don’t yet have an assigned counselor, clicking Connect Common App will display a message asking you to contact your counseling office. Once a counselor is assigned, you’ll be able to continue with the connection.
  3. A new window will open, taking you to Common App’s login page. Sign in using the email and password you used to create your Common App account
  4. Check the box to confirm you agree to share your Common App information with Scoir, then click Connect and continue
  5. Once the connection is complete, you will be redirected back to Scoir. On your profile, you'll see your account connection status, CA FERPA status, and CA ID.

Connecting Common App & Scoir on the Mobile App

If you’re using the Scoir mobile app, you can connect your Common App account in a few taps:

  1. Log into your Scoir mobile app and tap Me at the bottom of your screen
  2. Scroll to the Account section and tap Common App. Then, tap Connect Common App
  3. Enter your Common App login credentials and follow the prompts.

Once your Scoir and Common App accounts are connected, your college list from Common App will sync to your "My Colleges" list in Scoir. This helps your counselor know where you’re applying and ensures the correct documents get sent.

Keep in mind: Syncing isn’t instantaneous. It may take a few minutes for updates in Common App to appear in Scoir.

To make sure everything flows smoothly:

  • Keep your college list and application details updated in Common App.
  • For each college you plan to apply to, choose a start term and an admission plan in Common App. This allows your counselors to send documents where they need to go
